Car now offered at:

www.prewarcar.com/549281-1936-jaguar-ss100-2-5-3-5-litre

1936 Jaguar SS100 2.5 / 3.5 Litre

Chassis number: 18003

Registration Number: Austrian Plates. Formerly BOX878 UK plate. European Taxes paid.

The third example ever produced. This car comes with extensive USA race history & in 1961 was upgraded to 3.5 Litre spec with a correct SS 3.5 litre power unit. The 3.5 litre cars were of course not available in 1936, being sold in the 1938-40 model years.

It was ordered new sight unseen in 1936 by one Mr Paul Marx of Buxton Derbyshire as attested to by the Jaguar heritage certificate. A later letter some 9000 miles later from Mr Marx to Sir William Lyons attests to the soundness of his decision & the excellent performace from the car. Numerous references attesting to MR Marx's racing exports are contained in the thick history file coming with the car. He took the car to the USA in 1937 & raced the car extensively.

This car is in concours condition having had a full restoration by Beaufort Restoration services. Early in its life the original headlamps were changed to Lucas P100 units & these have been retained having become a part of the cars history. The paintwork is black, the cars original colour & in simply flawless condition. The interior as when new is maroon leather & again in perfect order. Indeed having had a concours restoration the car differs very little from the condition it was in when it left the factory.

Perfection needs but few words, so not much more need be said of the car. Viewings are by appointment near the Worthsee/Villach in Austria. The condition however is such that it may be purchased in confidence sight unseen. Please do take time to read though the extensive history files.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
