Car to be at auction 4/12
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php
Auction description:
Lot 138 - 1937 Jaguar SS100 2 ½ Litre
Estimate: £165,000 - £185,000
Registration Number: EVT 777
Chassis Number: 18125
This fine example dating from 1937 is in fine fettle having undergone restorative work in 1989 and again in 1997, and comes with bills and invoices for both sets of work.
Purchased by the current vendor in 1994, the car has been part of a significant collection of motor cars and, as one would expect of such a collector, has been well maintained throughout his ownership, as evidenced by the file of bills - including the mechanical restoration carried out in 1997, invoiced at £12,400, by specialists Axtell Ltd. which covered major items such as a full engine rebuild, crack testing of block, cylinder head, crankshaft and fly wheel as well as a carburettor and dynamo overhaul, new pistons, reconditioned clutch plate, valve and valve springs and gasket set - to name but a few! Further work during the vendor's tenure included regular maintenance and a re-spray just five years ago.
This is a beautifully appointed example of an exceptionally desirable model, attractively finished in British Racing Green with a matching green and beige interior and its original registration number - a truly iconic British sports car. The SS100 is one of those cars which has been considered a true classic almost from the moment of its inception, and remains infinitely desirable seventy five years later.
