An oddity that they give two different chassis numbers! I wonder which is correct this one, or the "chassis 19043" given in the text???

SS Cars Ltd was a British car manufacturer that grew out of the Swallow Sidecar Company and was first registered under this new title in 1934; it would be 1945 before the company changed its name to Jaguar Cars Ltd. The Swallow Sidecar Company had moved from its roots making stylish sidecars to become a coachbuilder adding new bodies to other makers' chassis and running gear before, in 1932, launching a car of its own, the SS1. Four years earlier the factory base had moved from Blackpool to Coventry, in the heart of the British motor industry.
Under the guidance of founder and chairman, William Lyons, the company survived the Depression years by making a series of beautifully designed cars offering exceptional styling and performance. The engines, modified to designs by William Haynes and Harry Weslake, and chassis were supplied by the Standard Motor Company, with a large design input to the latter from SS, while the bodywork was added at the Coventry works. The first of the SS range of cars was the 1932 SS1 with two or two and a half litre side valve, six cylinder engine. Initially available as coupé or tourer, a saloon was added in 1934 when the chassis was widened by two inches. 1932 saw the smaller engined SSII join the range.

According to information supplied by the vendor, this particular SS Tourer is one of only five known to still exist in Europe. First registered on the 29th September 1936, the car has resided with the same family for the last thirty years. The black paint work and red leather interior are now showing an admirable patina, as benefits an older restoration. With its 2½ litre engine the car will easily cruise at 90mph and the cylinder head has just had new valves/guides fitted to enable it to run on unleaded fuel; the vendor reports that it drives beautifully.
Supplied with a large history file, including a receipt for £375 dated 2nd October 1936 from the A.J. Guthrie Garage in Hawick Scotland, famous for racing Nortons at the Isle of Man TT Races, chassis 19043 is well known in the SS Car Club and comes with a V5 registration document, buff log book and various bills and receipts. Presented in very good condition, this is a truly unique opportunity to acquire such a rare example of this is large-engined, powerful and imposing pre-war sports tourer from one of Britain's greatest sporting manufacturers.
