Car was at auction in '04

Auction description:
The Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction
13 - 14 August 2004
Lot 275
1934 Jaguar SS1 Tourer
High Bid of $65,000
Chassis no. 247989

This forerunner to the SS 100 is a very rare classic and a wonderful piece of Jaguar's early history. This car was completed on May 17, 1934, with the first owner being H.H. Evers of Liverpool, England. It has since undergone a complete restoration with great attention to detail, being shown at several concours. Some of these include a win at the Pennsylvania Buckingham Concours and scoring a 99.87 at the JCNA Delaware Valley Club Concours. This car is in very nice condition throughout and comes complete with tools, new side curtains, and trophies, as well as an exceptionally rare original owner's manual and 24-page sales brochure - which are worthy of being separate auction items in their own right.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
